Once you have purchased and installed your whole house water filtration system, there is no
maintenance required apart from regular replacement of different filters. You put the filtration
system in and it does the hard work of capturing contaminants before they cause your family
harm. However, there is a critical, ongoing step to ensure your filtration System continues to do
its job long after installation: you must now change the different filters.
WHY FILTERS NEED TO BE CHANGED
Now you might wonder why filters need to be replaced. If you do not replace your water filters,
contaminants will clog the filters, leaving no room to capture any other chemicals or particles,
which will then flow out along with the water. Your water will therefore be contaminated.
This can also mean that your filter becomes a petri dish past its expiration date, acting as a bed
for bacteria to grow and multiply. Imagine drinking that water with your post-workout dinner.
As you rush to figure out when you bought your filter and when you should be replacing the
whole cartridge system, it is important to first identify the system you have installed. You have
one of the following systems:
- Rhino Well Water 500,000 gallons. If you have this system, the main filter should be
replaced every five years - Rhino 600,000 gallons. If you have the 600,000-gallon system, the main filter should be
replaced every six years - Rhino 1,000,000 gallons. If on the other hand you have the Rhino 1,000,000, the main
filter should be replaced every ten years
HOW OFTEN WHOLE HOUSE WATER FILTERS NEED TO BE REPLACED
First and foremost, there are several different types of filters utilized in a whole house filtration
system including the pre-filter, main filter, and post-filter. Additionally, you may have some
optional add-ons that also need maintenance in terms of replacing the filters.
There are two things one will need to consider in determining replacement of the filters. Firstly,
the quality of water that is connected to your house determines how often you will change the
filters. Different homes will have different sources of water and that will result with different
sediments. Of course, if your water source is dirty and muddy, it then implies that you may have
to change your filter more often than someone who enjoys municipal water that is cleaned and
major impurities removed.
